Description

In total, 17 test pits of 1 m square, three trenches of 1 x 4 m, and 19 trenches of 1 x 10 m were excavated. No archaeological features were encountered, but artefacts were recovered from the topsoil. These artefacts included clay pipe fragments, pottery and glass sherds and iron nails. The assemblage is predominantly 19th century in date. The absence of any identifiable features in the field suggests that the finds have been coming from a burgh midden that has been spread as fertiliser across the field.
