Full Description
Site of a cist discovered protruding from a sand quarry face in 1981. The east end slab was missing. The cist was oriented east-west/W with the skeleton lying on its left side, the head to the east facing south. A piece of flint (a secondary flake) lay against the south side slab and a beaker lay in front of the abdomen. The skeletal remains were generally not well preserved, but indicated a young male, in his early twenties, of relatively short stature. The floor of the cist was of crazy paving of broken quartzite slabs carefully laid. Some attempt had been made at clay lutting the cist. The beaker is slightly squat with triple-zone decoration with possible white infill of decoration, an SN Step3 N1/D beaker. A sample of collagen gave a calibrated radiocarbon date of 2710-1880 (at 2 SD).

GU-2100 human bone from an inhumation in a cist with a beaker and flint 3650 BP (Err: 50) 2200-1880 cal BC; OxA sample no V-2172-23 gives a date 3845+/-32 BP calibrated BC2430-2200 & 2460-2200.
