Description
Damaged remains of the cist observed in July 1981, including traces of a floor of thin slabs visible in the quarry face. Excavation recorded the remaining portion of the cist and its immediate environs. Examination of the pit was restricted by the circumstances of the excavation and the likelihood of collapse. Given the unstable nature of the remains, disturbed portions of the skeleton were removed from the east end of the cist proir to the start of excavation, the rest recovered (unevenly preserved) beneath the sand and gravel that had infilled the cist. Soil samples taken during excavation 24/07/81 - bag of beaker contents (dry earth), sand, charcoal flecks, small fragments of pottery etc. Director: RALSTON, GREIG & WHITE Auspices: AU Fund: SDD 100% of the total area was evaluated
