Full Description

Site of a short cist containing a beaker and a skull, found in 1855 in levelling a sand hillock at Blackhills, Skene. The beaker, of which nearly half remained, was purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1934 (now NMS). The exact site of the cist is not known (OS Name Book gives Blackhill for Backhill, and which may relate to the farm NJ81SW0088). The remains of a Beaker recovered from the grave is in the Royal Museum of Scotland (NMS: EG 67), but the present whereabouts of the urn found at the same time as the Beaker is not known.
