Full Description
Site of a standing stone. The stone is depicted on the 1st edition OS map of 1869, and it is described in the Ordnance Survey Name Book (circa 1866) as 'an upright stone situated near the west boundary of the parish. It is four feet (1.2m) high, 2 feet (0.6m) broad and one foot (0.3m) thick'. Coles gave the height of the stone as 5 feet 2 inches (1.55m). He also noted that its west side bore evidence of blasting, presumably before its erection. This suggests that the stone was set up as a rubbing stone, perhaps not long before 1866. The stone was removed some time after 1955. At that time OS surveyors recorded its dimensions as 0.65m by 0.5m at the base and 0.9m in height.
