A medieval pit and the potential remains of a truncated hearth were recorded during an archaeological watching brief conducted between August 2015 and June 2016 by AOC Archaeology prior to development.

Full Description
A medieval pit and the potential remains of a truncated hearth recorded at Turbine 2 site during a watching brief carried out by AOC in 2015-16. The pit contained a variety of domesticated and wild plant remains. These were dominated by pear/apple and corn spurrey seeds but included barley, oat, cereal, and hazelnut shell along with one each of sheep’s sorrel, dock and wild radish. A small amount of charcoal comprised primarily alder with some birch, while 15.9g of unidentifiable, burnt bone was present. A single apple/pear seed provided a radiocarbon date of cal AD 777-975 (SUERC-69941). The mixture of plant remains, charcoal and burnt bone indicates a function related to domestic food waste and fuel debris, while the high quantity of wild species was intriguing.
