Full Description

Three test pits were excavated in September 2014 as part of the Rhynie Environs Archaeological Project to investigate the area in which a number of symbol stones were found in the 19th century (NJ42NE0044). Test pit 12a revealed the base of turf wall and a pit, although no finds were recovered to indicate date or function. Test pit 12b, a little to the north, revealed a spread of angular stone which was further investigated by Test pit 23, and which is suggested to be the flattened remnants of a cairn.
