Full Description

Remains of hut circles, a field system, cairns and tumulii. The New Statistical Account (1845) recorded that several tumulii weree situated on the low barren ground of the parish. One of these was found to contain the head of a battleaxe, though that had been destroyed and the location of the tumulus unknown. OS site visit in 1967 noted that on the west shoulder of Hill of Rowan are two hut circles and an associated field system. The huts are defined by vague turf-covered stony walls, measuring 9m in diameter crest to crest and 0.3m maximum height. No entrances are apparent. The field system is composed mainly of scattered clearance cairns in cleared ground, with the odd vague field bank, but no definite fields can be seen.
