Full Description

Remains of chapel/burial ground,l the chapel of St Manire (or Chapel Mayore) who flourished in the 6th century sits on a level area scooped out on top of a natural knoll. It was surrounded by a burial ground used within living memory for unbaptised children. The standing stone was at its west end and was used as a reading desk for the chapel (said to be the remains of a stone circle). The burial ground still exists, surrounded by an enclosing wall incorporated in which (at NO 3010 9619) is a weathered standing stone, which possibly forms part of the entrance to the burial ground. There is no evidence of either a stone circle nor, within the enclosure, of a chapel or gravestones.
