Full Description

Remains of Scotstown children's' camp site, which was established in 1905 as 'Aberdeen Camp for Ailing Children', initially under canvas but buildings were constructed by 1936. The scheme was aimed at giving ailing children a fortnight's holiday 'in healthy conditions'. Children were chosen mainly from the poorer areas of Aberdeen. Food, drink and other necessities were donated by local firms and supported by charitable donations. The camp was discontinued following the establishment of a radio station at Perwinnes early in the Second World War (see NJ91SW0155) and was wound up in 1952. Remains of the camp were recorded by Cameron Archaeology in May 2014, including the dining hall, kitchen and offices, recreation hall, and girls' and boys' dormitories.
