Full Description
Rubbing stone, an unmarked standing stone with a few field clearance stones heaped around its base measures 1.1 m high by 0.5 m x 0.4 m with a few field stones heaped around its base. Visited by OS (WDJ) 31 October 1961. This erect granite stone, which is probably a cattle rubbing stone, is situated in an arable field about 80 m northwest of Nether Mains of Tertowie farmsteading. Triangular in section, it measures 0.58 m in breadth across the flat west face by 0.35 m transversely and rises to a pointed top at a height of 1.57 m. Both the northeast and southeast faces are artificial, the result of the original surface of the stone having been removed during quarrying. The stone is first depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map.
