Full Description
A possible standing stone. It was visited by ACAS in 1997, and was later recorded by topographical survey by Headland Archaeology in 2012 ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route. It does not appear on the OS 1st or 2nd edition maps. It is a large granite boulder measuring 2.1 by 2.03 by 1.97m, somewhat narrower towards the top and does not appear to have been worked. Excavation around the stone by Headland Archaeology in 2014 confirmed that it rested on a layer of relatively recent topsoil. It is likely that it is a glacial erratic that has been set upright in the 20th century to provide a cattle rubbing stone. It has been removed from its original position for the AWPR works.
