Description
A metal detecting survey and watching brief were carried out by MAS in 2020. No prehistoric or medieval objects were located during the metal detecting (conducted by A. McPherson) in November. The artefacts recovered comprised agricultural iron fragments and 18th-20th Century domestic artefacts including tin cans. Two coins were found, a George III halfpenny dating to between 1770 and 1807, and a worn 1929 penny. A crushed silver object appears to be the top or ferrule from a walking stick. The material is likely to have resulted from accidental loss or spreading of midden material. The subsequent watching brief in December, during topsoil stripping for a new house, recorded no archaeological features.
