Description
No new features were identified during a rapid walkover survey, although some fields were under crop. Some finds were recovered including worked flint, medieval pottery and iron slag. Subsequently 23 trial trenches were dug in six fields, although only one produced archaeological material, namely Trench 20 at the northern end of the area investigated. The results from Trench 1, positioned to investigate the cropmark feature, showed this to be of natural origin. However, a trench uncovered a small ironworking furnace and a fragment of a shale bracelet. Director: GUA Auspices: GUA Fund: DEV
