Description
The excavation identified a series of deposits from the 12th to 17th centuries. There were many pits, often associated with small-scale industrial activity such as tanning, and drainage features, including most significantly two barrel-lined wells of late medieval date. In the lower levels of Area C there were the bases of several stake and hurdle lines, probable fences. A wattle screen, possibly derived from these structures was recovered from the upper fill of a large sub-rectangular pit. Artefacts recovered from the excavation included a large suite of remain from waterlogged deposits, including structural timbers (commonly not in situ), wooden bowls, leather off-cuts and shoe soles.
