Full Description

A 23m long two-span lattice girder bridge with masonry abutments and central pier. In 2015 the bridge was subject to major repair works with a new road surface and approach road, fencing and footpaths installed. The old deck was removed and replaced with a new steel beam and reinforced concrete composite deck. The existing pier and abutments were strengthened and refurbished. The lattice parapets were also replaced. A bridge is depicted at this location on the OS 2nd edition map: the 1st edition shows a small structure on each river bank at this location. Nearby is a small concrete arch bridge dated 1884 (NJ41SW0086), one of the earliest of the type in Scotland. See also NJ41SW0085 for earlier bridge across the river to the west.
