Full Description

Remains of a chapel, also known as Chapel of Sinnahard. The New Statistical Account recorded that the foundations could be seen distinctly in 1866. The remains of the northwest and southwest sides of the chapel, were traceable in 1968 as turf-covered foundations circa 0.1m high enclosing an area circa 6m by 3m, with the enclosing burial ground wall circa 0.8m high although there was no trace of gravestones. RCAHMS site visit 1997 recorded the remains, the chapel measuring 6.5m by 4.5m over grass grown wall footings circa 0.6m thick and up to 0.3m high. A gap in the southwest wall close to the southwest corner probably indicates the position of a doorway. The chapel lies in the middle of the enclosure which measures 15.5m by 13m within an earthen bank up to 2.5m thick and 0.7m high, revetted externally with a drystone wall. There were no traces of gravestones or markers within the interior.
