Full Description
Remains of a former corn mill, originally built in the 18th century with a mid 19th century addition. It is shown on the 1st edition OS map as an L-plan building depicted as a corn mill with two rectangular-plan buildings to the west and one to the north, and is named 'Miltown'. On the 2nd edition OS map the site name is spelled 'Milltown'. The L-plan mill building has been extended, the building to the north removed and five buildings of varying size added to the west, including one L-plan building with attached enclosure. Current OS maps depict the mill building as roofless. Three of the buildings to the west have been removed and there are alterations to some of the remaining buildings. The L-plan building with attached enclosure to the west is now named Milton. The original 18th century section of the B-listed mill building is single-storey with a kiln, and is constructed from boulder rubble. The 19th century addition is two-storey and constructed from squared, stugged and pinned rubble with an associated sawmill in a lean-to. A large 'start-and-awe' or starting-off wheel has a double row or iron spokes, and an elaborate arrangement of conduits serve a small water turbine.
