Full Description
Railway station opened, as 'Port Gordon Station', on 1 May 1886. It was renamed Portgordon Station (by the London and North-Eastern Railway) before 1938 and closed to regular passenger traffic on 6 May 1968. During the Second World War, on 30 September 1940, railway porter John Geddes apprehended two German spies at the station. Having been landed offshore by a seaplane the two, Karl Theo Drucker and Vera Erikson, headed for Portgordon Station to catch a train to Forres. It is believed their target was the airbase at Kinloss. A third spy, Heinrich Walti, who had headed for Buckie was also apprehended.
