Full Description

Remains of a small rectangular building and two small outbuildings within an enclosure alongside a railway line. It does not appear on the 1st edition map. Field survey in May 2022 ahead of a proposed overhead 132kV line (NJ25SE0078) recorded the much-reduced rubble footprint of a rectangular building measuring 8 m by 3 m, set on a knoll. A drystone retaining wall was partially visible surrounding the south side of the base of the knoll, measuring 0.7 m high and 0.4 m wide. Within this enclosure, a circular drystone structure was built into the south-facing slope: it measured 2.5 m in diameter with walls 0.4 m wide and 0.6 m high. The area was densely overgrown and wooded. These features may indicate the use of the area as a livestock enclosure and pen.
