Full Description

Former railway station, opened on 18 August 1858, part of the Highland railway section of the Inverness - Elgin - Inverurie - Aberdeen main line. The station was a 3-bay building with south facing entrance front and centre door in advanced porch with swept roof. Modern front dormer, original gabletted dormer at rear (north) facing railway track. Canopied rear platform area with glazed roof supported by slender painted cast-iron columns. The former station offices are a west facing 2-storey, 3-bay dwelling with projecting single storey and attic, 3-bay wing at rear (formerly the station, now part of the dwellinghouse) and canopied platform area in north facing re-entrant. Constructed of tooled rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. Former station master's house has corniced doorway in a slightly recessed centre bay. Two segmental-headed first floor window in gablets. Mainly 4-pane glazing. Coped end stacks rising from slightly advanced gable flues, corbelled and shaped mid-height north gable to accommodate station clock (clock face missing). The station closed to regular passenger traffic on 7 December 1964, but the line itself remains in use.
