Full Description

Station, opened by the Highland Railway in 1893. Formerly a single platform terminal station of the Highland Railway branch line from Orbliston to Fochabers. The platform building is an H-plan structure with the platform awning between the arms of the H. Closed to regular passenger traffic in 1931. To the northwest of the station at NJ 33645972 stood the engine shed, with a tank circa 40m to its east, which still appears to survive. A level 1 standing building survey (NJ35NW0071) was carried out by CFA in October 2008 of the standing remains of the tank shed, engine shed and footbridge associated with the branch line. The tank shed was a rectangular structure (6.6m x 3.7m) comprising large, dressed sandstone blocks with an arched doorway and window. The engine shed was heavily overgrown and inaccessible, with the visible remains comprising concrete plinths 0.2m high and 0.35m wide. The footbridge that spanned the disused railway line was arched and stone built comprising large, dressed sandstone blocks and smaller sandstone brickwork beneath the arch. The bridge was heavily overgrown and continued to a length of 18m.
