Full Description

Remains of the farmstead of Bridgetown which is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps as a small, almost U-shaped building with another small single building to the west. A mill pond lies to the north. Remains of two buildings, one of them standing gable high, and a mill pond still survive. A field survey was carried out in 2009 by CFA Archaeology prior to a proposed wind farm, which recorded The remains of two stone and mortar bonded buildings within an area of a recently planted coppice. Although the main elements of the farmstead survive in situ, parts of the south buildings gables have been removed. the surviving elevations, in some places 2 meters high, suggest that the building had one storey. A possible entrance is discernible in the north-east elevation. The second building was recorded directly north-east, part of which has been robbed out at some point, although in some places the walls survive to a height of 1 metre. An entrance is visible in the south-west elevation. There was no trace of the pond, and it is possible that it was filled in when the land was prepared for the coppicing.
