Full Description

Cylindrical dovecot, constructed from rubble and harled and whitewashed, with doorway at the East. It was possibly built in the late-16th or early-17th century, although the listing description, and other sources, give it a mid to late-18th century date. There are two local slate rat courses encircling the building, and there are random square flight holes above upper course. There is a possibly re-roofed conical local slate roof, and an apex weathervane. Inside, there are only a small number of wooden nesting boxes supported on the ledge around the upper portion of cote. The small number of nesting boxes indicate 19th century (or later) use. Originally the inner walls would have been lined with boxes from the ground floor up. It is circa 75 metres (246 feet) East of Kininvie House (NJ34SW0003).

Period Notes
Two possible dates are given: the late-16th or early-17th century, or mid to late-18th century. Both are possible. Listed designation given on 22/02/1972, and it was changed from an A listing to a B listing on 09/11/1987.
