Full Description
Well preserved remains of the walled garden of Auchlunkart House (NJ34NW0045), depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition map shows a garden of three compartments. By the 2nd edition a small building had been added on the north side and a pump is shown within the south side of the garden. Recorded during field survey by Clyde Archaeology in October 2023 ahead of overhead line reinforcement (NJ35SE0041). It measures 125 m by 40 m, the walls standing to 2.5 m, with several gateways with ornate iron gates. There is no wall on the east side. Old apple trees in the eastern part of the garden indicate its use as an orchard. The remainder, to the west, was not accessible at time of survey.
