Full Description

Remains of a lime kiln depicted on the OS 2nd edition map. It is annotated as 'Old limekiln' so appears to have been disused at that time, although it does not appear on the 1st edition. The site was visited during a survey of limekilns of Upper Donside in 2002. The circular outline, reduced to a ring of stones at ground level could be made out under grass and brushwood. The kiln was 4.4m in diameter externally, the bowl 2.2m in diameter. The area has been ploughed and planted with conifer trees.
