Full Description

Remains of a limekiln depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, apparently disused by the time of the latter on which it is marked as an Old Limekiln. The grass-grown ruins of the limekiln were recorded by the RCAHMS Strathdon survey. The kiln measures 7 m in overall diameter, while the bowl, which is part infilled with stones and strands of old fence wire, measures 3 m in diameter and up to 1.5 m in depth on the west-southwest. The drawhole on the east-northeast is now marked by a shallow, grassy hollow. To the east is a small grass-grown quarry that measures a maximum of 7.5 m across and up to 2 m in depth.
