Full Description
Remains of a farmstead and lime kiln. On the 1st edition OS map it is shown as a long rectangular building, with two smaller buildings and a sub-rectangular enclosure to the east, a limekiln to the north-east. By the 2nd edition map, one of the buildings and the enclosure to the east have been removed and a mill lade and pond with sluice and mill dam are shown to the north. The limekiln is marked as disused. When visited by the RCAHMS in 1998 they recorded that the L-shaped building is comprised of a stone-built cottage, up to 4.5m in height and 13.25m x 6m. Extending from the cottage is a range with five openings, surviving to 1.5m high and 29.5m x 5.5m. Set at right angles, a water powered mill surviving to 2.6m high and 6m x 6m. The lade has been partially removed and the dam on the pond slighted. The limekiln still stands to a height of 1.5m internally. Site visit 2002 as part of survey of limekilns of upper Donside noted that the draw hole and bowl of the kiln have collapsed to the front with a spread of stones and lintels down the bank.
