Full Description

Limekiln, depicted on the OS 2nd edition 6 inch map by which time it appears to be disused as it is annotated as 'Old limekiln'. It does not appear on the 1st edition OS 6 inch map. It was recorded as part of a survey of limekilns of Upper Donside in 2002, as a large well preserved kiln circa 4 m in height to the front, with an external diameter of 5.8 m. The draw hole is flanked by buttresses, and has four lintels, and there is a small air vent directly above the draw hole. It is built from larger and flatter stones than other kilns in the area.
