Full Description

Remains of a circular lime kiln on the south side of the farm road leading to Beltimb, circa 260m west of the farm. It is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps and was recorded by the survey of limekilns of upper Donside 2002. It is a small plain kiln, almost freestanding (rather than being set into a bank), standing 2.8 m at the front, and measuring 3.3 m in external diameter. There is a low, small square drawhole, 0.8 m in height and 0.8 m wide with four supporting granite lintels. The upper walls are unusually thin and some restoration work may have taken place. Compared to other kilns in the area this appears to be a very basic kiln and may be an early example.
