Full Description
Remains of longhouses, enclosures and a small farmstead. In the late nineteenth century, the farming township of East Chapelton comprised two separate clusters of buildings, including dwelling-houses with gardens, barns and ancillary buildings. A total of nine roofed buildings, one unroofed building and seven enclosures are shown on the OS 1st edition map. The township had reduced in size by the time of the 2nd edition map, on which four buildings are depicted a roofless. By the 1970s, these buildings were all ruinous, and were subsequently removed to create an area of pasture land.
