Full Description

Lossiemouth War Memorial, built into the rockface on Clifton Road. Sandstone stepped base with bronze plaque listing names of those from Lossiemouth who died in World Wars I and II. There are two bronze reliefs below the plaque with wreathed shields. One has a figure of robed man, possibly Jesus, while the other shows a rigged shipped moving towards a robed figure with outstretched lamp. The monument is crowned by a seated bronze male figure, semi-togate with possible sword in left hand. Full transcription of memorial held in AAS Digital Archive. Amongst those listed on the memorial is Sergeant Alexander Edwards VC, who received the VC for his heroic actions on 31 July and 1st August 2017 during the Battle of Passchendaele. He was reported missing in action in March 2018. A commemorative paving stone for Sergeant Edwards was unveiled next to the war memorial in August 2017.
