Full Description

Anti-tank concrete blocks occupy part of the bay and Stotfield Hythe to the north-west of Lossiemouth - see also NJ27SW0023 for continuation of the line to the west. Some are partially covered in sand. Site visit in August 2022 as part of the SCAPE Community Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (CCZAS). Some of the blocks between the Skerries and Lossiemouth bear graffiti on the top of the blocks carved into the soft cement during construction. Generally the lettering refers to the Polish and Welsh soldiers who constructed them. A few have the date 1940. A copper alloy Polish Army Eagle cap badge is pressed into the top of one of the blocks. Four pillboxes (Type 24 variants) have also been recorded along the section of defences between the lighthouse and Lossiemouth (see also NJ27SW0023), two on this eastern half of the beach although neither survive.
