Full Description

Shipwreck recorded as part of Scotland's Coastal Heritage at Risk Project. The wreckage includes either the stern or the stern post at the north end, with some planking visible at the south, the overall length 24 m. Numerous frames are visible, the keel and floors largely buried. Numerous copper alloy spikes can be seen in the frames. A large iron shaft, 2 m long with iron frame members, resting within the hull may have been a deck hoist or winch. There are some iron frames. Timbers are all of oak. The wreck has been tentatively identified as the Nairnshire, a 99 ton schooner built in 1875 and wrecked in 1910, stranded on 'Findhorn Bar'. Site visit in June 2022 as part of the SCAPE Community Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (CCZAS) also noted the remains of the wreck which has been tentatively identified as the Nairnshire, a 99 ton schooler built in 1875 and wrecked in 1910 (NJ06SW0082).
