Full Description

Gatepiers and section of park wall. Depicted on the OS 1868 town plan of Elgin and recorded by AOC in 2011 as part of a programme of archaeological works for the Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme. The gatepiers are constructed of rusticated ashlar with deep footings. No wall survives to the north, but a stretch of stone rubble walling remains to the south. It terminates at a modern concrete pier, although there is evidence on the east side of the wall that this was the position of an original pier. No features are evident in the wall. Initial on-site assessment by AOC in 2009 had identified a gravestone in the vicinity of the wall, but no sign of this was identified in 2011.
