Full Description

Commercial and residential properties, still in use, built in the earlier 19th century. It is a two-storey and attic building constructed from painted ashlar with a blocking course and cornices. There is a wide, flat-headed entrance to a pend (No. 184) and original shop fronts, all with moulded architraves. The upper façade is constructed from finely tooled ashlar, with raised tooled margins and corniced windows with moulded cills. There are two piended dormers to the slate roof. Through the paved and cobbled pend is a row of three, two-storey and attic, rubble built, residential buildings with tooled dressings. There are three bays to number 184A, and two bays to numbers 184B and 184C. The windows are similarly corniced and have moulded cills. Building recording was carried out by AOC Archaeology in March 2019 ahead of proposed development. Its exterior form and fabric are characteristic of a traditional burgh backland building.
