Full Description
Former corn mills, built in 1912, probably designed by Charles C. Doig in 1912. Previously used as a warehouse, and now vacant. There are 20th century additions, much of which has since been demolished between 2011 and 2015. It is a two-storey and attic rubble building on an L-plan, with a former corn mill with a pyramidal-roofed pagoda kiln. There are tooled sandstone rubble dressings and margins, with the margins polished and using long and short quoins. The principal elevation to the South is asymmetrical. With the kiln to bay to the left (West), and an infilled opening to the ground floor. There is a small opening to the attic floor. There is a gabled bay to the right (East), with regular fenestration to the two ground floor windows, flanking a timber boarded doorway, with a similar boarded doorway and flanking windows to the first floor. There are two symmetrically placed windows set in the gablehead attic floor above, and two two-pane skylights to the attic. The East elevation was mostly covered by a brick lean-to, which is now demolished. There is a doorway to the South of the elevation, and two symmetrical windows above. The West elevation also had a 20th century lean-to addition, which is now demolished. There is a central doorway to the ground-floor of the kiln. The North elevation again covered with additions, which are now destroyed. There is a central doorway in the ground-floor, and a ground-floor central window to the kiln, with a small window above. The Eastern gabled section has a central ground-floor doorway, with a large square doorway above and asymmetrical windows, one of the first floor and two on the second. They were all previously incorporated into the later additions, and now are unglazed and uncovered. The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, or infilled. There is a grey slate roof with a lead ridge. It is gutted inside, and there are no remains relating to its original use. The building is in a poor condition.
