Full Description
Steading and mill, made up of 19th century steading buildings, miller's house and corn mill. The mill is an attractive 2 storey and attic T-plan mill, with a 1-storey wing at the South-East end. It was rebuilt in 1891, on the site of a 1733 mill that was destroyed by fire, and is constructed of rubble, with tooled rubble dressings. The kiln has a prominent slated ridge vent with a revolving top, and a slate roof. There are three pairs of stones in line with a level drive to one and conventional drive to the other two. The mill wheel is an overshot, wood and iron, 8-spoke wheel on the West gable. The mill is depicted on the OS map of 1846 as a corn mill. The mill pond lay to the East, with a lade leading to the mill. The mill worked until 1972. It was recently restored, and is now used as holiday accommodation. The Miller's house (category C-listed) was built in the mid-19th century. It is a 2-storey, 3-bay house, constructed using harled clay and bool walling. There is a central entrance. Two first floor windows break the wallhead in gablets and 4-pane glazing is used. There are end stacks and a slate roof.
