Full Description

Gravel bank which was used for mooring of vessels. Ships owners were pressing for a light or beacon on the Scaup in 1764. In 1810 anchors poor 'dolphins' were installed to which ropes could be attached for hauling vessels away from the quay. In the later 19th century the Montrose Natural History and Antiquarian Society number of artefacts have been found (including during dredging by the railway company) on the Scaup, including a jet brooch, red deer skull, dagger, Charles I shilling, small cannons, cannon balls.
