Full Description
Site of Fairy Hillock, a large mound of earth, circa 60 m x 30 m, later artificially made up with a wall round the foot of it, removed in 2008. In 2003, MAS Ltd undertook an evaluation on the site, which established that the mound was a natural formation. However since this did not preclude the possibility of prehistoric burials occurring elsewhere on the mound, a watching brief was recommended for future work. In 2008, MAS Ltd undertook the recording of the drystone wall surrounding the site and the archaeological watching brief during the removal of the mound. The south and east sections of the mound had previously been removed without archaeological supervision. The drystone wall was dated to the 19th Century. No archaeological finds or features were evident during the supervised removal of the mound.
