Full Description

Accommodation site for a World War II emergency Coastal Battery (NJ26NE0015), part of coastal defences around Lossiemouth. This area of the battery includes the accommodation camp, of which 21 concrete barrack-hut bases have been identified from aerial photographs and were located on the ground by AOC in February 2009 during a desk-based assessment of Lossie Forest. On the West side of the area is a magazine for the two gun emplacements which lie to the north. It measures circa 5 x 10m. Its interior is divided into two rooms. The building is sunk approximately 5m into the ground in order to direct the explosion upwards in the case of a direct hit. A 3m wide track dug into the ground turns 180 degrees from its entrance on the north wall toward the south and would have enabled a vehicle to deliver the ammunition to the structure.
