Full Description
Cropmarks of ring-ditches and pits recorded by CUCAP (date not held at NMRS) and the RCAHMS since 1977 and AAS in 2000. At least three ring-ditches have been recorded at the terminal of the pit-alignment noted on NO64NW0027. The largest measures about 18m in diameter. Harding and Lee interpret one of the ring-ditches as possibly henge-related. It has a possible interruption, is defined by a medium-broad ditch and has five possible pits in the interior. Of these, one is in the centre and the other four are regularly placed around the centre. After aerial reconnaissance in July 2000, a number of other cropmark features are visible, including oval enclosures with internal features, ring-ditches, possible souterrains and pits. Part of the area is overlain with rig and furrow, orientated north-south, visible as crop marks. Geophysical survey (gradiometer and ground penetrating radar) was carried out by CFA in 2010. None of the anomalies recorded could be unambiguously related to features visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, and many may reflect natural subsoil variation and the effects of rig and furrow cultivation.
