Full Description
Grouse-butts, not shown on the OS historical maps, but shown on the current edition OS map. A walkover survey carried out by West Coast Archaeological Services in October 2020, covering an area of a proposed woodland planting and regeneration scheme (NJ25SW0049), recorded an alignment of six very degraded turf and stone built shooting butts centred at NJ 24117 51046 (Site 13). They were located outside the proposed tree planting areas, but in close proximity to one of the proposed access tracks, so were included in the walkover survey. The butts were hidden under deep heather, deer grass and moss, and were not recorded in detail. Another alignment of grouse-butts was recorded to the south (NJ25SW0052).
