Full Description

Cropmarks, to the northeast of Woodhead Croft, are visible on vertical aerial photographs. Most of the circumference of a probable very large circular enclosure is visible, apart from the western area, enclosing several small circular features. There are also at least two possible square barrows that may relate to a Pictish barrow cemetery site. One of which contains a small circular feature. This barrow cuts the ditch of the large enclosure. To the south there is another possible rectangular enclosure, at circa NJ 8963 6175. A number of pits are aslo visible. In the north of the area at circa NJ 8947 6197 there are a number of dark 'blobs' which may represent hut stances, but could also represent quarry holes.
