Full Description
The remains of Aikenway Castle stand on a promontory sitting above the River Spey. Formerly known as Oakenwalls. The history is unknown but it is said to have been occupied by a Leslie, brother of Earl Leslie of Rothes. Only part of a crumbling tower remains on the southwest edge of the promontory This would appear to be the remains of a circular stair tower incorporated into a barmekin wall which enclosed the promontory. These are now reduced to footings with landslip having destroyed it in the northwest. The remains of walling to the west of the tower may represent the south wall of the castle. There is a raised area on the west side that may be part of a collapsed building. The enclosed area has been partially cultivated and is now featureless. Bracken has taken a hold and is spreading over the interior. Cattle have gained access and have churned up the inner area.
