Full Description

Longmorn Distillery, founded John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomson in 1894, together with its neighbour BenRiach (NJ25NW0015). In the early 1970s, Longmorn merged with the 'The Glenlivet' to create 'The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd'. The distillery doubled its production capacity in 1972 and again in 1974. The number of stills went from 4 to 8. Seagram purchased the distillery in 1977. Longmorn is one of the few distilleries who never stopped production. It consists of a group of buildings of various dates including a 2-storey and attic rubble range of malting floors and a simple pyramidal-roofed kiln. There is a circular section brick chimney and a particularly pleasing 4 bay range of 1-storey and attic bonded stores with alternate slated roofs. Motive power for the distillery was originally provided by a large water wheel, now disused. It also has a steam engine, rarely used today. Linked to Longmorn Railway Station (NJ25NW0017). Production continues at the distillery.
