Full Description

Remains of Roman Temporary Camp partially underlying extant earthworks of larger camp. Parts of all four sides of camp II are recorded as cropmarks and all the camp measures about 412 m from west-northwest to east-southeast by about 323 m transversely, enclosing some 13.5 ha. Stracathro type gates are visible in the north and west sides. The excavations in 1968 established that camp II was earlier than its larger neighbour (NJ63NE0001). The dimensions of the ditch of camp II were very small, measuring some 1.2 m in width and barely 0.6 m in depth.
