Full Description

Possible ring-ditch showing as faint trace on aerial photographs. Trial trenching evaluation of this site was carried out in October 2012 by AOC as part of the Forres (River Findhorn-Pilmuir) Flood Alleviation Scheme. Two trenches were excavated (an east-west trench of 28 m x 2 m and a north-south trench of 15 m by 2 m), a total area of 86 sq m. No significant archaeological features or artefacts were identified. Excavators suggested that given the depth of alluvial deposits and the location of the site in the flood plain of the Findhorn, the crop mark was most likely a geological feature.
