Full Description
Linear crop marks lie over a field within which is the thin trace of a possible sub-square or rectilinear enclosure towards the western side of the field. Its sides are slightly curved and uneven. Some of the linear marks may represent earlier field boundaries or trackways. There are also a number of small dark 'blobs' which may represent pits, and at the eastern end of the field there may be a souterrain and a suggestion of a circular enclosure, though this is not a distinct mark. Additionally, there are a number of marks which are probably agricultural and/or geomorphological. A pre-development evaluation was undertaken by AOC in 2007 when a number of features were recorded, including a cremation pit with urn and possible settlement sites. Following on from the evaluation carried out in September 2007, an excavation was carried out by AOC in May 2008 which unearthed later prehistoric settlement features consisting of a souterrain, a ring ditch, two four-poster structures, a circular structure, two furnaces and six isolated features. Artefacts include a Neolithic ceramic vessel, two whetstones, fragments of two rotary querns, a saddle quern, two pieces of worked bone and a huge amount of slag material.
