Full Description
Cropmark. A discontinuous cropmark resembling a spiral (or double enclosure) was identified on aerial photographs, but it may be agricultural. Watching brief carried out in 2004 by S. Farrell on a number of test pits for the Moray Flood Alleviation Scheme. No finds or features were observed. An archaeological evaluation was carried out in this area in 2006 by Headland Archaeology, as part of the Forres Flood Alleviation Scheme. Four trenches were excavated, which failed to reveal an features of archaeological significance. A waterlogged peat deposit was revealed under a silty deposit of windblown sands. It has been suggested that the areas where the peat is exposed may account for the dark anomaly apparent as a cropmark.
